Service Projects
HDx aims to address social determinants of health through an interdisciplinary, innovative service model. We truly believe that the greatest solutions will come about by bringing together the knowledge of a diverse set of professionals.
- Vision Outreach Program
- Problem: Limited access to mentors from a young age limits education quality, motivation, and future career options further limiting economic stability.
- Solution: Connect students in Title I Schools (high percentage of low SES population) with college and professional students to help children envision themselves in a possibility of future roles.
- FoodChain Volunteering https://foodchainlex.org/
- Problem: Lack of access to nutritious, culturally-sensitive, meals causes long term health problems
- Solution:
- Create a vending machine to offer access to nutritious foods after hours.
- Create culturally sensitive food packages that cater to the diet and cultures of different groups within Lexington
- HDx Students volunteer to create food packages for underserved populations in Lexington
- Lexgiving with ChefMed
- Problem: Lack of food and community around the holidays can create mental health concerns
- Solution:
- Hot Food Day at Hope Lodge ensures that individuals get a hot meal and community during the Holiday season
- Students prepare food packages to give to underserved communities in Lexington
- Multilingual Community Resource Brochures
- Problem: Not everyone knows about the community resources available in Lexington
- Solution: Create brochures in different languages to help immigrants & refugees access all that Lexington has to offer.
